Plants
for all seasons
One
of the main strengths of this garden is the very wide variety
of plants. I have nearly 2000 different types of plant including
trees, shrubs, hardy perennials, grasses, ferns, climbers,
bulbs, annuals and tender plants. This means the garden is
interesting and colourful throughout the year.
Winter There
are winter flowering, usually scented, shrubs, stem colour,
hellebores and snowdrops in January and February.
Spring
Lots of bulbs and woodland plants more shrubs and flowering
trees take us through early spring to iris, aqilegia, geraniums,
violas, early clematis, tulip sprengeri, lilac, abutilon and
deutzia in May.
Summer
Lots of roses provide scent and colour in June with clematis,
poppies, paeonies and philadelphus. Some of the roses will
flower until autumn.
Herbaceous plants, annuals and tender things, especially salvias
take the garden through July and August with the grasses playing
an increasing role, a large collection of viticella and herbaceous
clematis add colour to plants which have finished flowering.
Autumn September
and October give us asters, grasses, berries and early autumn
colour while November and December give late autumn colour,
miscanthus, brave things such as schizostylus and mahonia
and the beauty of the winter woodland.
If you like plants and want to see what looks good at a particular
time of the year why not try a private visit out of season
and see what we have providing a good display.
