New website - good progress is being made, but I am not sure what it looks like on other pc's. If you see any problems please let me know by using the contacts page.
The Open days - what a dismal June. Rain, rain and more rain. It is not surprising that attendance at the open days was well down on last year. However we are pleased to report that we had 51 visitors to the Thursday open evening and about 110 visitors on Sunday. Not bad considering the weather. Barkston Ash School had a good year with their home-made cakes being much appreciated by visitors.

The moorhens - The resident moorhens are having a good year. They still have two of the three chicks that hatched and seem to be roaming far and wide around the garden and into adjoining fields. The missing chick was killed on the road, which claims so much of our wildlife. Last year they had seven chicks but only one survived.

Brown hare - got off to bad start this year with four adults killed on the road just in front of next door.
3 June W
e were lucky enough to find two new born leverets that the mother had left in the flower bed near the house. The usual behaviour of hares is for the mother to leave the young together as soon as they are born and then move them to separate locations in a day or so. In this case the mother returned the following morning and moved the young hares elsewhere. We knew we would then have to wait until they grew up a bit before seeing them again.
18 June The leverets are doing well and we think there are three of them. They have started to be seen in the evening playing on the front lawn and round the well. In two weeks they have grown an amazing amount.
23 June We now know that there are four leverets in the garden. They come out late evening to play on the lawn and then sit in a group waiting for mum to come to feed them. Last night we were lucky enough to watch the mother arrive and feed them. It only took about five minutes before they were sent back into the flower bed and she was off back into the field.
